Your ASVAB or Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery results can have a significant effect on your military career.  Your ASVAB score is used to calculate your understanding of basic academic and scientific concepts.

Arithmetic Reasoning

This section consists of basic math.  You will encounter 16-word problems that must be answered in less than 39 minutes.

General Science

This section covers chemistry, biology, and physics.  You will need to understand these basic scientific principles.  There are 8 questions that must be completed in 16 minutes.

Mathematics Knowledge

In this section, you will be tested in geometry and algebra.  There are 16 questions that must be completed in less than 20 minutes.

Mechanical Comprehension

This section of the test covers mechanics and physics, including Newton’s Laws of Motion.  You have 20 minutes to complete these 16 questions.

Paragraph Comprehension

This section will require you to explain the meaning of a paragraph by choosing the answer from different scenarios.  You have 22 minutes to complete 11 questions.

Auto and Shop Information

In this section, you are tested on basic automotive designs and functions.  There are also some questions regarding tools.  You get 7 minutes to complete 11 questions.

Vocabulary Knowledge

This section tests your vocabulary.  A word is given and you must select the synonym.  You will need to answer 16 questions in an 8-minute time frame.

Electronics Information

In this section your knowledge of concepts such as resistance and conductivity, will be tested.  You must answer 16 questions in 8 minutes.

Assembling Objects

In this section, there are diagrams that you must decipher.  This is done by choosing the correctly assembled version.

Your ASVAB results will dictate what branch of the military you are eligible to join.  You must score high enough to be accepted.

Minimum scores each branch of the armed services requires to enroll:

• Coast Guard (40)
• Air Force (36)
• Navy (35)
• Marines (32)
• Army (31)
• National Guard (31)

The Air Force is known for temporarily denying entry to candidates that score less than 50 on the ASVAB, then requiring them to retake the test, before they are officially accepted.  The point is, your ASVAB results matter, they should be your primary focus.  If you are planning to enroll in the military, you should start preparing for the ASVAB today.
